second fastest growing tourism economy in the world:
India Shining seems to be rubbing off on travel and tourism industry. India has been ranked the second fastest growing travel and tourism economy in the world, one spot ahead of China, and right behind chart-topper Montenegro, as per the latest 2004 Travel and Tourism forecasts released by World Travel & Tourism Council in London. According to recent government statistics from New Delhi, the country`s capital, tourism generated $2.5 Billion in foreign exchange earnings in the year to date ending September, up 20% on last year. Inbound tourism grew by around 15% with 1.864m visitors, all positive signs that Asia is truly on course for a roaring tourism market. International Taj Year 2004: The Tourism Department of the State has declared 2004, as 'International Taj Year' and festivities will go on all year. as Taj mahal turned 350 years old. The yearlong festival will showcase the indigenous culture of the Braj region, which was once Lord Krishnas territory. From music to dance to special food Agra is pulling out all the stops. Sahara Airlines has plans to link Agra to the major metros of the country to make movement of tourists easier. The Taj Mahotsav (festival) generally held in March will be a spectacular event this year. Tourist arrivals to India on the rise: Buoyed by the revival of tourism in Jammu and Kashmir and a boom in southern states like Goa and Kerala, foreign tourist arrivals to India are tipped to go up by 25 per cent this year, a top tourism official has said. This trend is likely to continue with the liberalization on chartered flights and India emerging as an all-round, year-round destination. Goa and Kerala led the country as the states attracted the maximum number of foreign tourists while Jammu and Kashmir was regaining its lost glory with the improvement in relations with Pakistan Indian travel mart takes off as Indian tourism booms: Riding on the wave of interest in the Indian tourism market and the success of their inaugural event in February, exhibition organizers Kinex Log of the UK announced the second edition of World Travel India (WTI) to be staged next January in New Delhi. The launch of the "WTI` 05" travel trade exhibition and conference was made in Dubai at the Arabian Travel Market. Following on from the success of the first show earlier this year in Mumbai, the organizers were overwhelmed with the response from both international and domestic exhibitors. |
