BUS
Rajasthan has an extensive network of bus services run by the state owned Rajasthan
State Road Transport Corporation. The corporation connects every conceivable
hub to its regional principle town. It has a well-connected and frequent bus
service from Bikaner House, ISTD Bus Stand and Kalle Khan from Delhi. Beside
a bus to Jaipur can also be boarded at Dhola Kuan, which is closer to the airport.
There is a bus service from Deli to Jaipur at a frequency of almost one service
for every fifteen minutes. Similarly Agra-Jaipur is also well connected.
The bus services are available in Air-conditioned and Deluxe class on selected
routes and express and ordinary busses are available on all routes. AC and Deluxe
busses have a seating arrangement of 2 by 2 with aisle in the middle; the seats
are push back and well cushioned. The ordinary and express busses are five seats
a row with aisle between two and three seats; the seats are fixed with less
foams and normally Rexene upholstered. A well-located bus stand with all amenities
is available at all towns of Rajasthan. Tickets are normally available at the
time departure but advance tickets can also be purchased; in some case you buy
ticket on the bus itself. AC and Deluxe busses have a separate luggage booth.
CARS AND TAXIS
Taxis are available in wide-ranging variety from small, midsize to utility vehicles;
station wagons and luxury cars are available. Cars can also be rented with or
without drivers. It is even possible to hire a motorcycle.
Autoriksha
Autoriksha are noisy canvass top three wheelers powered by a two-stroke engine
similar to scooter or a motorcycle. The driver sits in the front and drives
by scooter like handle. It can carry two to three passengers and has enough
luggage space for a couple of suitcases or handbags. They follow the same ground
rules as taxis and charge fare by the metre but nearly half the charges. These
are good transport for short distances and narrow and busy lanes.
Cycle Rickshaw
These are effective three wheel push pedal cycles. It has a seat for two passengers
and is a slower alternative to autoriksha. These are available in most towns
of Rajasthan and can hailed from any street corner. Fares must always be fixed
before hiring and situation like as you like it should be avoided, because no
matter what you pay will be considered less and un pleasant situation can occur.
Tempos
A very clumsy looking large autorickshas that ply on fix routes and charge on
per seat basis. If you are spending a long time in a town they can be used effectively.
