Jag Mandir, Udaipur
Recently the famous Bollywood Star - Ravena Tondon got married here on 22nd
Feb, 2004.
The Jagmandir Island is situated in the midst of Lake Pichola.
Was built by Maharana Karan Singh in early 1600s but takes its name from Maharana
Jagat Singh (1628-52) who made a number of additions to it. It was in this
pleasure Palace where, Prince Khurram, later to become the Emperor Shahjahan
of Mughal dynasty, took refuge in this island in 1623. It is claimed that
he derived his inspiration to build Taj Mahal from this island. This claim
makes the whole event even more romantic.
This Island has hosted a number of grand events through the decades including
weddings, theme parties and royal parties.
The guests are ferried in decorated boats across the lake in form of a procession
to the Jagmandir Island in the middle of Lake Pichola, decorated with lights
for the special occasion. The whole island has an encompassing view of the City
Palace, Lake Palace, the Lake and the Aravali ranges of hills.
The sight as one nears the island is stunning, as the whole island is beautifully
illuminated and looks like a floating jewel. Once inside, the place transports
you to another era, recapturing the essence of royal leisure palaces.
Made of the finest yellow sandstone inlaid with marble, it has been dedicated
to the Lord of the Universe. In the middle of its courtyard, is a most exquisitely
carved chhatri of special grey-green granite called "Pareva", imported
especially for this purpose. Fountains play, in its magnificent courtyard as
stately elephants guard the entrance to the island.
Dinner and entertainment is a lavish affair, with barbeque snacks made live
and a sumptuous spread of buffet dinner, with a choice of traditional yet lively
folk song & dance Program or DJ music with a dance floor, with the grand
finale of spectacular fire works.
The Darikhana the pillar extension, has floor seating with mattress
and bolsters and decorated with flowers. Rajasthani folk dances and music fills
the atmosphere with waves of happiness. Meanwhile our chefs carefully lay down
the buffet inviting guests to savor the specialties of auspicious day.
